Photovoltaic modules

What are photovoltaic modules and how do they work?

Photovoltaic modules, commonly known as photovoltaic panels or PV panels, are made up of photocells that capture the solar energy to convert it into electricity. They are the main building block of any photovoltaic installation. The semiconductor material used in them, usually silicon, is sensitive to light and produces electricity when exposed to sunlight through a physical phenomenon called the photovoltaic effect. With the help of an inverter, the direct current produced by the PV panels is then converted into alternating current, which can be successfully used to power various types of electrical equipment used in households, businesses or farms.

Photovoltaic modules - installation methods

In order to ensure their optimal efficiency, photovoltaic modules are placed on support structures, which can be mounted both on the roofs of buildings and on the ground. It is important that photovoltaic modules face south, are not shaded and their inclination angle is 30°-40°. Under such conditions, we can expect that a photovoltaic installation with a capacity of 1 kWp located in Poland will generate on average about 900-980 kWh of electricity per year.

Types of photovoltaic modules

The offer of photovoltaic modules is constantly expanding due to the growing popularity of photovoltaics. Currently, the market mainly offers two types of PV panels. The first type is made of monocrystalline cells, while the second one is made of polycrystalline cells - these, however, are becoming less and less popular due to relatively high production costs.

What to look for when choosing photovoltaic modules?

When choosing photovoltaic modules, you should first of all pay attention to factors such as:

  • power output – currently, the most popular PV modules are 330 to 450 Wp,
  • efficiency – for high-end photovoltaic panels, it is 18-20% on average,
  • thermal resistance – photovoltaic module manufacturers currently offer products with thermal resistance estimated at around 90%,
  • product warranty – reputable photovoltaic module manufacturers provide a warranty for 10-15 years, some even for 25 years,
  • power performance guarantee – typically, a linear guarantee from well-known and reputable PV panel manufacturers offers 25 years for an average of 80-85% of the initial performance of the PV modules.

How to choose good photovoltaic modules?

The choice of individual components of a photovoltaic installation, including PV panels and the inverter, largely determines the efficiency of the system. This, in turn, translates into the period of return on investment and the level of savings possible to achieve from renewable energy sources. In the case of photovoltaic modules, it is worth paying attention to their individual parameters described in the datasheet provided by the manufacturer. Apart from the parameters related to the output power of the panels, the datasheet provides additional information concerning the reliability tests or certificates obtained. Every year, the PVEL institute (PV Evolution Lab) tests photovoltaic modules and presents a special ranking. It is worth following this information on a regular basis and, before choosing PV panels, check the brands recommended by specialists in order to ensure the best value for money.

CORAB photovoltaic modules

CORAB, as an experienced and reliable business partner with 30 years of experience, has become a leading manufacturer of photovoltaic systems and distributor of renowned brands of photovoltaic modules. We offer PV modules from the world's leading manufacturers:

Corab Encor - these photovoltaic modules are manufactured per our order. They offer good value for money, which is confirmed by a 12-year product warranty and a 25-year linear warranty. Encor brand photovoltaic panels are made with the utmost care and attention to aesthetics. Numerous studies and tests have proven their high quality, so investors choosing these PV modules can be confident of their performance.

DMEGC Solar - is part of Hengdian Group, a successful Chinese corporation. The photovoltaic modules offered by this manufacturer are available in various versions with different output powers. Depending on the models, some products are covered by a 12-year product warranty with the possibility of extension to 25 years, and others by a 25-year warranty. The linear warranty of these modules is 25 years with a yield of 84.8% of initial power output.

Eurener - is a Spanish brand known for the production of high-quality photovoltaic modules, which can boast very good results in various tests. Their quality has been appreciated by such laboratories as IEC, TuV SUD, LAPI or MCS. PV panels of this manufacturer work efficiently even in extreme weather conditions, are covered by a 15-year product warranty and a 25-year linear warranty. They are often chosen for the installation of photovoltaic systems also because they are made with lead-free technology and are recyclable, which has a positive impact on the environment.

LG - a brand known for many years, is also successful in the RES sector. Their photovoltaic modules are characterised by high efficiency which, in turn, translates into a long life of the photovoltaic installation. CORAB offers a wide selection of PV panels from this manufacturer - with various power outputs, also in the full black option.

Q.Cells - photovoltaic modules from the South Korean company Hanwh Group are known worldwide for their above-average quality. They are also available in CORAB's range of monocrystalline modules, with varying power outputs, efficiencies of up to 21.1% and product warranties ranging from 12 to 25 years. They are certainly worth considering when selecting components for your photovoltaic installation.
